Limpsfield Chart Golf Club (LCGC) was formed in 1889 and in exchange for doing work on the course, LCGC offered "villagers" an opportunity to use the course (but not the clubhouse!). The first game between LCGC and the villagers was played in 1895 and thereafter matches have been played annually.
In 1908 the villagers formed the Gresham Artisan Golf Club.
The title came from the owners of the land on which the golf course was created and who lived nearby at Titsey Place. The Leveson Gower family name was "Gresham".
The club is proud of being one of the original members of the Artisan Golfers Association (AGA) which held it's inaugural meeting at the Andersons Hotel London in 1920.
Nine members of GAGC have become professional golfers.
In keeping with it's Artisan origins, GAGC members still assist with maintenance of the course, e.g. divoting, litter-picking and special projects. Typically this comprises 10 to 15 hours per year and in exchange, we pay a reduced membership fee.
